Home Again 04:02
HOME AGAIN Reid Spencer They say you can’t go back in time They say you can’t go home again And out of sight is out of mind And out of touch is what I’ve been About the time I paid my debt You found me on the Internet Singing songs we can’t forget Written way back when Tiny plane with a single prop Looking down on the mountain top By God I hope we stop Before the runway ends Lonesome house on the mountain side Hairpins turns and a dusty ride The moment I stepped inside I came back home again Sunset from the mountain top Got a view that just won’t stop Making music till we drop Communion with the past Eastsound Westsound Our sound, lost and found Let’s make it work this go-round Cuz it could be the last Sunset from the mountain top Two miles up from the hookah shop But we don’t need that crazy crop We’re living free and fast Eastsound Westsound Our sound, lost and found Let’s make it work this go-round Cuz it could be the last Eastsound Westsound Our sound, glory bound Let’s make it work this go-round Cuz it could be the last They say you can’t go back in time And out of sight is out of mind But in a place I’d never been I found my way back home again

OUTSIDE CAMPTON GEORGIA James Connell Outside Campton Georgia Just south of Route 209 In an empty cement building Were me and a friend of mine We were trying to take it easy Without wasting too much time An hour off Is time enough For a hit of Ripple wine We started getting looser And rappin bout WWIII When in came the building inspector Said “Boys you better listen to me” Billy Jones don’t mind If we take it easy on the job Or even waste a little time Bill’s a friend of mine Even if he don’t Drink Ripple wine It’s a hard day on the rock It’s a hard day on the rock It’s a hard day on the rock For me and old Eddie We were trying to take it easy Without wasting too much time An hour off Is time enough For a hit of Ripple wine The inspector he got edgy He turned and slammed the door Me and Eddy, ever ready Decided to drink some more By tryin’ to take it easy Me and Eddie nearly died Hour off is too much time For a hit of Ripple wine Billy Jones don’t mind If we take it easy on the job Or even waste a little time Bill’s a friend of mine Even if he don’t Drink Ripple wine It’s a hard day on the rock It’s a hard day on the rock It’s a hard day on the rock For me and old Eddie

WHY CAN’T I JUST TELL YOU James Connell Why can't I just tell you How much you mean to me? Do I have to show you Do you have to see? When words and wants don't match up When touch is all or none Why can't I just tell you What can and can't be done I know we paid a cost and felt the loss To love the way, The only way we knew Hear me when I tell you How much you mean to me You have truly shown me How much I’ve left to be I can be with someone Give all that I can give And know no more is needed And this is how to live Now I can say goodbye Not asking why We loved the way The only way we knew. Now I can say goodbye Not asking why We loved the way The only way we knew.

HOMELESS PARADISE Reid Spencer There’s a flood in Honolulu But it’s no December storm Just a steady stream of derelicts In search of someplace warm. Certain cities on the mainland Solved their problems in the street By rounding up their vagabonds For a tropical retreat. They come from Cincinnati They’re in-bound from LA With some flimsy airline blankets They scrounged along the way They come with empty pockets They come with empty eyes Staking out a stretch of sidewalk In a homeless paradise But in the high-end shops on Ala Moana Not a vagrant to be found Cause the city cops have chased them All the way to Chinatown On the pristine sands of Waikiki I’ll spend Christmas with the wife Oh how we love our island life A bedroom made of asphalt The ceiling full of stars Dinner’s at the dumpster Down the street by Murphy’s Bar It’s a fabulous vacation But soon they’ll pay the price When they learn there’s no return From this homeless paradise But in the high-end shops on Ala Moana Not a vagrant to be found Cause the city cops have chased them All the way to Chinatown On the pristine sands of Waikiki I’ll spend Christmas with the wife Oh how we love our island life

OUTSIDE OF ME James Connell Pretending that age was a thing of the past Made all our days seem new Silent and slow the feeling was cast Making only the words seem true Counting on someone to feel your pain She goes and you say “yes” Leaving you all cramped inside Feelin’ like a guest Outside of me There are bad feelings Of what I would be Without you Outside of me There are bad questions Of what I would be No great stories, no memories, no dreams Change all that we went through All the good reasons, all the sad lies Make what we seemed less true Knowing that no one could see you sane You hoped that she’d take less Watching her go, you crept inside Stealing someone’s rest Outside of me There are bad feelings Of what I would be Without you Outside of me There are bad questions Of what I would be Counting on someone to feel your pain She goes and you say “yes” Leaving you all cramped inside Feeling like a guest Outside of me There are bad feelings Of what I would be Without you Outside of me There are bad questions Of what I would be

NOTHING BUT LOVE Reid Spencer The way you mistreat me I can’t understand Why you do me the way you do But the heartache is gone With the touch of your hand I got nothin but love for you I got nothin but love for you You’re a vice I don’t need You’re a book I can’t read You’re a mystery without a clue But when you hold me close I’ve got to concede I got nothin but love for you I got nothin but love for you Got no comfort Got no peace When am I ever gonna get my release Flash me that smile The way you do That’s all it takes to keep me comin back to you Send me away With a wave of your hand Leave me wondering what to do But when you lead me down To the promised land I’ve got nothin but love for you I’ve got nothin but love for you I’ve got nothin but love… for you.

HILLS OF CAROLINA James Connell There’s just a trace of yesterday’s garbage on the floor These city walls ain’t built too high To hold me any more And I’ve been thinking lately Of a place I’d like to go In the hills of Carolina We can make our music show We played our last gig Wednesday to a peanut-eating crowd We drove up through the Smokies A little after dawn And I’ve been thinking lately Of a place I’d like to go In the hills of Carolina We can make our music show In the hills of Carolina We can make our music grow Wake up late, have some eggs and walk into the sun Laying back in my rocking chair Singing just for fun And I’ve been thinking lately Of a place I’d like to go In the hills of Carolina We can make our music show It’s just about time Mr. Musical Man To get down to what you know In the hills of Carolina We can make music show In the hills of Carolina We can make our music grow In the hills of Carolina…. We can make our, our music show

MAYBE I BEEN TALKIN' James Connell Friend of mine from New Orleans Gonna start a music show. He’s thinkin’ of askin’ everyone he used to know. He’s got me on the steel guitar. Sammy on the drums. Trying to make it easy for everyone to come. I been told that New Orleans Can burn the best of souls. Everybody there seems like there’s no way to grow old. But I loaded my guitar. In my brand new beat-up car. Trying to feel like something was gonna finally turn out right. Maybe I can make it to New Orleans sometime Wensedy nite. Or maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life. Left a message for my best friend. Took my palette from the floor. Blew myself off the shelf like a heartbeat through the door. They say that I’ll regret. But one thing I’d sure bet. New Orleans ain’t half as bad as the hometown folks I left. Maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life. Maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life. Homefolks said “you’re gonna be dead If you shed that ball and chain”. When I hit the big town boy, I’ll be on the gravy train. They said “the devil he’s in your music boy.” “You’ll be playing in Satan’s band!”. I know they’ll change their tune when I return a wealthy man. Maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life. Maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life. Maybe I can make it to New Orleans sometime Wensedy nite. Maybe I been talkin’ to the wrong man about doing something with my life.

JUST FOR TODAY (for D) James Connell Listen close and try to learn Give myself some time Try to ask and wonder Wait and look for signs Do something kind that no one knows Make sure others shine Let friends know I need them Just take on what’s mine Just for today Let me do these things Not to perfection Not for all time With some help I can do these things But just for today Find and tell my truth with care Lose my need to lie See what’s there for what it is Watch my fears go by Just for today Let me do these things Not to perfection Not for all time With some help I can do these things But just for today

BREAKFAST AT SUNSET James Connell & Reid Spencer Christmas night a year ago Friends told tales tall and tender Mine were bout rock and roll Forty years ago My friend Jim swore he'd find Something bout our band Wondered what we’d left behind Grateful that he cared. Gonna find those boys Gonna bring ‘em back ‘Cause we have a chance to get A new take on Who we were back then A breakfast, breakfast at sunset Late that night from the web Jim sends me a tune I wake up, hear our song My life is changed by noon Gonna find those boys Gonna bring ‘em back ‘Cause we have a chance to get A new take on Who we were back then A breakfast, breakfast at sunset Sent a note to rhythm guitar Said, “Come on out and play!” He said sure, hopped a plane Got here in a day He was great at telling tales I leaned in all week. Real good heart, real damn smart A left wing Southern geek Gonna find those boys Gonna bring ‘em back ‘Cause we have a chance to get A new take on Who we were back then A breakfast, breakfast at sunset Took five days to figure out Who did what and when Made shit up to fill the gaps Felt some things again Lots of laughs Lots of gaffes So little to regret Not a bad way To end a day With breakfast, breakfast at sunset
